As I delve back into web design again, I can see my site needs a little freshening up, so there will be a few changes soon. I’ve already updated some functionality on the portfolio page and tweaked the images page. But look for others in the coming weeks.

a few weeks ago i was walking outside and passed a dead bird, just an ordinary brown bird, on the sidewalk. i had a fleeting moment of poor bird and then walked on. later that day as i walked to the library, i passed another dead bird, this one much smaller, bright blue with a splash of yellow, and i began thinking the birds were bad omens for something.

and then today i found this image by amy stein. and i am now thoroughly depressed about the birds.

this morning, i dropped my mug of piping hot tea. somehow, i caught it mid-air, which wasn’t necessarily the brightest thing to do, as it sloshed near-boiling water on my hand and trousers. after several minutes of cold water relief, i went on about my day. only to drop my mug again several hours later. this time, i didn’t reach out to catch it, and did not get burned. but i also did not catch the mug, which hit the floor. and broke. i’ve saved the robin’s egg blue pieces of ceramic for another creative use. and am now terrified to touch anything hot, breakable or deletable.

this little holiday wish from AKQA i stumbled upon gave me just a little smile when i needed it most. so i thought i’d share the pick-me-up.

sometimes the covers of The New Yorker are over my head. but this one truly deserves praise. what a striking design to commemorate a momentous occasion.

everyone knows the movie. but now there’s a 20th anniversary edition…with one of the coolest typographic covers i’ve ever seen. très impressionnant! a graphic design palindrome!

happy october! it’s my favorite month of the year. the weather is perfect, warm days, crisp evenings, the leaves are changing. i can almost smell the campfire smoke even in the middle of the city. i like the way the word rolls off my tongue, i love the color orange, i somehow feel more justifed in making pumpkin walnut bread and soups. and life starts to slow down…just a little.

to mirror the reality of my life, this constitutes a belated beginning to my non-sequitur, and now manifest, musings. i’ll attempt fluidity and see where it takes me.
